Ethiopian Airlines is a state-owned airline

from Ethiopia. Its main airport is Addis Ababa

Bole International Airport.

The company has been a full member of the

Star Alliance alliance since December 2011.

Ethiopian Airlines was founded on December

30, 1945 by Emperor Haile Selassie with the

assistance of TWA. It began flying on April 8, 1946

with weekly trips between Addis Ababa and

Cairo with five Douglas DC-3 propeller planes.

The company started long-haul flights to

Frankfurt in 1958 and took its first jet into service

in January 1963 from Addis Ababa to Nairobi.
